Causing to stumble is an intimate exploration of one woman’s journey towards a greater understanding of herself and her traumatic childhood.
The project focuses on Annette, a woman suffering from the devastating after-effects of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her former priest. She seeks to forgive — herself, her abuser, her mother, her parish, her God.
The photographer explores Annette’s participation in art therapy, expressive writing and participatory photography as she tries to self-identify, and to heal.
Can photography and art therapy help those who have suffered from trauma to reach a higher realm of self-awareness, and to heal? This project documents Annette’s journey as she begins to rediscover herself, steps back into her painful past and tries to achieve understanding, growth and healing to help her deal with it.
